I was a few years too old for Hannah Montana, but I was certainly a witness to its pop culture explosion. The Disney Channel of the mid-2000s saw the network reach new mainstream heights, serving as yet another reminder of the commercial power of highly excitable tween girls. High School Musical broke records, the Jonas Brothers made the charts, and the daughter of a country singer with a legendary one-hit wonder became a stadium headliner. Miley Cyrus was a megastar, the face of the Disney Channel, and someone who seemed primed for the A-List. Spoiler alert: that actually happened, but not without a few bumps along the way. Now, Cyrus has decided to bring back Hannah for a 20th anniversary celebration, which airs tonight on Disney+.
