The power couple of my dreams sadly never made it official.

Do You Remember: When Colin Farrell Almost Became the 9th Mr. Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor wasn’t the most married woman in Hollywood history. That honour goes to Zsa Zsa Gabor, who also married a sh*tbag Hilton, but a different one from Liz. Yet when we think of the grand marriages in celebrity history, there’s a reason we think of Taylor first. She is the epitome of the ethos “we just don’t make them like this anymore”: A child star turned legendary sex symbol who lived large, loved diamonds, invented the celebrity perfume industry, wrote a diet book, and fought tirelessly for the queer community in the midst of the AIDS epidemic. You could argue that the entire concept of fame was redefined by Liz, a true star on and off the screen who never adhered to the stifling and misogynistic demands put upon her, and who retained her mystique even as every detail of her private life became front-page news.

When she died in 2011 at the age of 79, we lost one of the greats. Liz’s last marriage, to the construction worker she met in rehab and who she wed at the Neverland Ranch, ended in 1996. In her later years, when she embraced her status as a wonderful kook, she famously declared that she was done with marriage (”Nooooooooo!”) But one guy came bloody close to becoming the ninth Mr. Taylor. And oh, Liz, honey, he would have been a magnificent one.
